That Beach Life

We turned a small galley kitchen of this beach townhome into an open and spacious delight!

But, there were architectural struggles and limitations. There are 3 different ceiling heights, one of which is just under 7 feet high, housing mechanical lines that could not be moved. As well as a load-bearing wall that also had to remain.

I do love a creative challenge! That load-bearing wall was opened up to visually let us see through it, while still providing the structural support. Custom stained wood shelves took it from utilitarian to decorative.

Placing the refrigerator under the 7’high ceiling area worked best. Where the ceiling vaulted, we added a pantry cabinet, which they didn’t have previously, as well as created a buffet area with glass doors for displaying precious keepsakes. The island provides working space, storage on the back side and incorporates an eating area for 6 people.

The beachy vibe is evoked through the white cabinetry, quartz that resembles sand and a tile backsplash that feels like waves of water.
